Local Area Information

Few can define exactly where the Roseland Peninsula starts and ends but it is said that you know when you are there as the lanes get narrower, the hedges denser, tufts of grass start appearing in the centre of the road and you drive through a maze of lanes to arrive at a small cove or a traditional fishing village. Most it runs from Dodman Point along to the attractive coastal village of St Mawes at the end of the Peninsula and along the edge of the breathtaking Fal Estuary but everyone agrees that it is one of the most beautiful parts of the country.

Ventonveth lies just above West Portholland which is located about 2 miles from the village of Veryan and 3 miles from Tregony, both of which have village shops, pubs and local village amenities.  For a wider range of shops, supermarkets and facilities Truro and St Austell lie both 10 miles away.  Portloe (1 1/2 miles) and Portscatho (4 miles) are attractive traditional fishing villages which both lie to the west whilst Gorran (3 miles) and the larger village of Mevagissey (5 miles) are situated to the west. From St Mawes there is a passenger ferry to Falmouth from where you can then catch a pleasure boat up the Fal Estuary to Truro.

The Roseland is littered with village pubs and restaurants including one within walking distance from Ventonveth Barn at Portloe.  The walk there from the barn is along the breathtaking coastal path and takes about an hour at a stolling pace - a perfect distance to have earned an appetite for some lunch. There are several  sandy bays like Porthlune and Carne locally and a wealth of local attractions including Caerhays Castle, Lost Gardens of Heligan and Trelissick and miles of stunning coastal paths.

Ventonveth Barn also provides a perfect base to explore the rest of the amazing county of Cornwall and from Land's End and the Lizard to the wilds of Bodmin with its tropical gardens, tin mines, surfing beaches and attractive villages there is so much to do and see you will want to come back time and time again.
